My name is Melissa Pohland. I am 22 years young. I live here in Woodbridge with my family and dog named Lily. I love to travel, play soccer competitively and spend quality time with my friends& family. For this 2016-2017 school year, I will be placed at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School in a Full-Day Kindergarten classroom. I am so excited for this opportunity and I can hardly wait to meet all the children and get to know each and every one of them individually.

Miss. Melissa Pohland

I attended St. Clements Catholic Elementary School. Holy Cross Catholic Academy for High School& currently am in my 4th year of Early Childhood Studies at Guelph-Humber University. I will be graduating June of 2017& my plan is to further my education in Teacher’s College. My program is unique in the sense that it offers the theoretical study of ECE& allows students to gain hands-on experience. I have over 500 hours of experience from school placements& specifically have the most practice with children ages 1-6; as I work at St. Peters daycare outside of school.
Places that allowed me to grow into the person I am today...

This is me at my Kindergarten Graduation back at St. Clements Catholic Elementary school where I spent 10 years of my life: 1998-2009

My Elementary School for a whole 10 years.

This is my high school where I spent 4 years of my life. I graduated with honours and as an Ontario Scholar: 2009-2013

My high school graduation.

I was accepted to four universities when I applied back in Grade 12; Ryerson, UFT, York and Guelph-Humber. I chose Guelph-Humber University because it provided both the theoretical study and hands-on experience in the field of study.

I am currently employed at St. Peter's Childcare centre. I completed my 2nd year placement in their preschool setting and my 3rd year- first semester placement in their infant room. After finishing my 3rd year placement, I was asked to join their team and I was so happy to accept. Working there over the summer was such an eye opening experience for me. I was able to work with all different age groups, with all different staff which I am so close with and was really able to break out of my shell.

My program I am studying at Guelph-Humber University: 2013-2017

Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education. My plan is to graduate with honours. Afterwards, I am looking at attending York University for Teacher's College in the Primary/Junior division. My dream to be a teacher in a Full-Day Kindergarten setting or Grade 1 classroom.
