Administrative Tasks Continued

When I do not complete a program plan/learning experience for the children, this page is the place to view! Administrative Tasks will consist of important things I am responsible for completing within the classroom for both the teacher or my field supervisor. Examples can include; decorating bulletin boards, filing/paperwork, assisting in putting together lesson plans for the teacher to implement, attending workshops, etc.

Day 2 - Observation/ getting involved

Friday, January 13th, 2017

First week back from winter back was very slow as all the children slowly trickled in. The teacher and ECE are planning the themed based activities next week, so she asked me to run her center instead of creating my own. She placed me in charge of creating a snow globe fingerprint craft, as well as a handprint mitten craft. These kinds of crafts act as keepsakes for the children to keep track of their growth throughout the year; as their hands will grow.

Materials Used:

  • Dark/Light Blue Construction Paper

  • Black Construction Paper

  • White Paint

  • Red Paint

  • Black Paint

Finger Prints & Hand Prints

By completing this art activity, I will be given the opportunity to take on two crafts at once in place of the ECE. I was able to successfully implement two crafts at once in a timely fashion and with a variety of art materials made accessible to me.

Day 4 - PA DAY/PREP DAY

Friday, January 20th, 2017

My elementary school that I am placed at had a PA day today. My field supervisor asked me to come in regular hours to help her prep for activities and lessons ahead. I also assisted in cleaning/sanitizing toys, shelfs, organized all the classroom books by author, filed children’s work, set-up the dramatic area into a post-office and decorated the classroom with Valentine’s Day decorations! (even though it is a bit early)

  • Cleaning Supplies

Prep Work for the Months of January& February

Cleaning, sorting, organizing, decorating, etc. Over the past 7 hours, the ECE and I got a lot of things done in a timely and efficient manner. By planning for crafts and lessons ahead of time, activities will be able to run more smoothly.

Day 12 - Valentine Heart Handprint Craft Trees

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

As a unique Valentine’s Day craft, this heart tree in the shape of a handprint will be a beautiful keepsake for all the children. I will assist my field supervisor in making sure that all the children complete the activity in a timely and efficient manner. The children will enhance their fine motor skills by practicing in handling glue sticks, scissors and mini heart pieces.

Materials Used:

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Various Colors of Cardstock Construction Paper

  • White Writing Paper

  • Pencils

  • Stapler

Valentine’s Day Heart Handprint Craft-

Prepping, Cutting Hearts Pieces, Tracing Handprints, Scaffolding in children gluing and cutting. By preparing the activity for my field supervisor, I will allow her to complete the activity in a timely and efficient manner. In addition, I will have the opportunity to hang the art pieces all around the classroom.

Day 13 - CREATING Shape Monsters

Friday, February 17th, 2017

My field supervisor was today, so I was given the responsibilities of assisting the teacgher in prepping for the creation of their unit- Shapes. The children would be creating 'Shape Monsters' and I was responsible for cutting out different sheets, creating a worksheet that allows them to explain their monster and cutting out different shapes with construction paper to create different details on the mosters faces. The children will enahcne their fine motor skills as they practice cutting and gluing different pieces, and enhance their ability to distinguish between the different names and properties of shapes.

  • Various Colors of Cardstock Construction Paper

  • Worksheets

  • Pencils

  • Stapler

Shape Monster Craft-

Prepping, Cutting Different Shapes, Scaffolding children in gluing and cutting. By prepping and assisting for the teacher. I will be able to assist her in completing the

task in a timely and efficient manner. In addition, I will have the opportunity to hang the art pieces outside the classroom to display to the school.

Day 19 - Bulletin Boards& orGanization

Friday, March 3rd, 2017

Assisting the teacher in preparing for the month of March by organizing lesson plans/craft plans, collecting children’s old artwork off bulletin boards and re-posting new artwork on bulletin boards.

  • Various Artwork from Children

  • Glue

  • Broom/Dustpan

Prepping for the Month of March!

Cleaning, sorting, organizing, decorating, etc. By planning for crafts and lesson plans ahead of time, the teacher and ECE will be able to run their days smoothly; which is beneficial for all the children as there is limited stress.

Day 21 - RE-CREATING THE DRAMATIC CENTRE

Friday, March 10th, 2017
Purpose of Task:

I was given the responsibility of taking on the role of decorating the dramatic center into an Easter Center. Since I am placed in a Catholic school, the very important holiday of Easter is soon approaching. Although early, our class is starting to get a head start in decorating the classroom. I was able to look through all the decorations and pick accordingly as to what I think would look nice. I hung things from the ceiling, posted things on the windows and walls and furthermore, included different manipulatives the children could play with once the center is open; Easter buckets, Easter eggs, etc.

Materials Used:

  • Scissors

  • Tape

  • Paper clips

  • Various Bought Easter Décor

  • Dramatic Center Items: Buckets, Plastic Easter Eggs, Shredded Paper

  • Broom/Dustpan

Spreading the Easter Spirit!

Cleaning, sorting decorations, organizing, decorating, etc. By always being able to change up the dramatic center, educators are giving children an opportunity to use their imaginations in different settings- in which are provided for them. Once all the items are collected/bought- the children will be able to decorate their own eggs, pair up and go on Easter Egg Hunts and pretend to own their own store that wraps and distributes Easter flowers/gifts.

Day 25 - Spring is Here!

Purpose of Task:

The children were introduced to the theme of Spring! Since Spring has arrived, it's an excuse to create rainbows, and a variety of colorful crafts to brighten up the classroom walls. Our theme of this week was Rainbows, so the children had the opportunity to create rainbows in a variety of different ways. Through this task, I was able to assist my field supervisor in making sure all the children complete their tasks so I would then be able to hang everything up inside and outside the classroom for a beautiful display!

Materials Used:

  • Scissors

  • Tape

  • Froot loop cereal

  • Cotton Balls

  • Glue

  • Popsicle Sticks

  • Various Bright Colored Construction Paper

Spring is Here!

In response to my purpose, the children will have the opportunity to practice their fine motor skills, use their imaginations and broaden their art skills as they create many crafts with relation to the theme of Spring! I will be able to transform the classroom into a beautiful masterpiece for the children to enjoy.
